Today is
Becoming Leaders Who
Overcome
Read : Joshua Chapter 14,
Verses 10 – 15
Leaders overcome the challenges of mundane living.
Many times our lives can become very monotonous and mundane. This
leads to a lot of restlessness and frustration. But when we surrender everything to God, we allow for God’s
extraordinary excitement into our lives. We are then able to enjoy each new day of our lives as though it’s
something new.
True leaders are able to overcome every challenge in their way
when they have vision and hold on to the promises of God. In times of trouble, leaders learn to Trust in God.
Psalm 2:12 – Blessed are all they who put their Trust in Him.’
Question : Can you share with the group some examples,
when you were able to overcome mundane living. What are the benefits and results of being an overcomer ?
Leaders overcome challenges of unfair
living.
Life will never be fair. Leaders do not gripe about unjust things
but they have the ability to get on with this life. If we see Caleb’s life we see that he was not given the
importance or the promotion as a leader in the way Joshua was. This was inspite of him being more enthusiastic and
excited. But he did not let this unfairness let him down. His aim was solely to be a part of the plan of God. He
did not care what others felt about him or whether he was treated unfairly or not. He just kept on with his work
selflessly and with only one goal, serving God.
Question :
Share with the group instances (for eg. at work, etc) when you felt you were treated unfairly and what did you do
in such a situation.
Leaders overcome the desire for
promotion
We need to forget about what we want. Its not what we want but
what God wants. We are a vessel that the lord wants to pour into. Many people get disappointed and loose their
mission just because they did not like someone else getting a higher position or title than them.
Leaders do not worry about this. Caleb is a fine example of
someone who was not interested in self promotion. He only wanted to serve God. Leaders are not there to promote
themselves. They do not give up even when they do not see the fruits of their labour. They just carry
on.
Question :
Do you have a vision in your life today, what steps would you take in order to fulfil it ?
See below some fine examples of true leaders :
Abraham - A leader
with conditional obedience – Hebrews 11:8-10
Daniel - An
uncompromising leader with an excellent spirit – Daniel 1
Moses – A leader who
practiced the presence of God – Exodus 14:13-14
Noah – A leader who
found favour with God – Hebrews 11:7
Joseph – A leader
with passion, power and purity –
His first test – Genesis 37:24
His second test – Genesis
39:7-12
Just as Joseph was faithful to the vision given by God, remaining
faithful to God’s vision, assures us of finding favour with God and with others, which is instrumental in the
achievement of success in our endeavours (Genesis 39:4, 21).
